This workshop will deal with Gothic textura as a book hand. We will look closely at the letterforms as well as planning and making a manuscript book.
Edward Johnston often told his students that the best way to learn the craft was to undertake a specific commission or project, as the requirements of the task would dictate the necessary discipline.
The writing of text in a few manuscript pages teaches us consistency and to look at calligraphy as texture.
We will learn layout and composition, as we will discuss margins and placement of various elements: titles, headings, footnotes etc.
When: Tuesdays 14th, 21st, 28th of April & 4th of May. 19:00–20:30.
Lectures, demonstrations, Q&A, corrections of homework in Slack, access to videos for 2 months after last session. Workbook as pdf.
